IMPRESSIONS ~ Piano Portraits of Claude Debussy
Performed by Sam Rotman, Concert Pianist ~
Recorded: 1997
Recorded on a Steinway Concert Grand Piano
In May of 1970, Sam Rotman had just completed his sophomore
year as a student at the Juilliard School. That summer, at the invitation
of Mr. Jacob Lateiner, his piano professor at Juilliard, Mr. Rotman spent the
entire summer in Paris studying, practicing, and taking lessons. That
summer had a profound effect upon Mr. Rotman. He became completely
immersed in the culture, language, and psyche of France and the French people. The museums, gardens, and cathedrals that he visited throughout
France enhanced his appreciation of and affinity for the music of Debussy and
the Impressionistic movement. We are pleased to release this recording of
the piano music of Claude Debussy.
